Poetry, Jazz, and Copyright @ Your Library



It’s National Poetry Month, National Jazz Month, and National Library Week.  Check out what’s happening at a library near you between now and the end of the semester.

Multimedia Jazz Appreciation Display  
Northeast Library   All April 
An amazing Jazz History display, complete with QR codes to scan into your smartphone and listen to the musicians featured in the display.

National Library Week
All Libraries  April 15-20
For students, faculty and staff the library can be a real lifesaver.  Come in during this week and pick up a bookmark featuring library resources and services along with a yummy Lifesavers candy!

Poetry Reading for Poem in your Pocket Day

Metro Student Commons  April 18   12 PM – 1 PM
Students can bring their favorite poem or song lyrics to share, read some of their own poetry, or read one of the poems that will be provided by the library.  Coffee will be provided.

West Campus Student Activities Auditorium  April 18  12-2 PM
Open Mic Poetry Reading.  Bring a poem or song lyrics you’ve written, or a favorite published poem and read it.  If you don’t have a poem we’ll supply one!   Snacks provided by Student Activities

Poem on the Pavement  
Northeast and Southeast Libraries   April 18 All Day   
We supply the sidewalk chalk and in the designated area you add a few lines to a collaborative poem.   Let your voice combine with others’ voices to make a unique creation!

Poetry for Peace
Southeast Campus Student Union Auditorium  April 18 10-11:30 AM
As part of the Teach Ins for Peace and Poem in Your Pocket Day program the Communications Division and the library are collaborating on a poetry event.  Students, faculty and staff will all be reading both original and published poetry relating to the theme of peace.   We will also be handing out poems in the “Y” in building 7.   There will be snacks!

Come and take a poem supplied by us, leave a poem of your own, or both!

Jazz Appreciation Concert
Metro Student Commons  April  11 AM – 1 PM
Local jazz singer Rebecca Ungerman will be performing in honor of Jazz Appreciation Month. Ungerman has been voted Urban Tulsa’s Absolute Best of Tulsa Female Vocalist as well as A-List Favorite Stage Performer.

Copyright and Intellectual Property Workshop 
Southeast Library Classroom  April 24   12:30-1:30 PM
Jump into the world of copyright and intellectual property with this engaging and informative seminar.    Topics include the origin and purpose of copyright, the TEACH act, and the Digital Millennium Copyright act.  This is being presented by Demetrius Bereolos.

Stress Management Workshop
Metro Library Classroom  April 29   2:00 – 3:00 PM 
Nursing faculty Nancy Vitali, MSRN, will be conducting a stress management workshop.  She will focus on techniques that can be employed to help reduce stress in a variety of situations, as well as lifestyle choices that can allow the body to better handle natural stress reactions.

Free Coffee in the Library  (generously supplied by Student Activities at each campus)

Need help staying awake to study for finals?  Come get a cup o’ joe at the library!

Or do you need help staying awake to take your finals?   Coffee in the library!  And you never know, there might be cookies and other tasty beverages as well.   Come see what we have!   



The Southeast Campus Library will be closed beginning May 11 for re-carpeting.  We anticipate being closed for 2-3 weeks, but we will have more details about re-opening closer to time.  During that time, please use a library at another campus. 

Intersession Hours for all Libraries:                        7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Regular Summer Hours for all Libraries:               7:30 a.m.  to 9 p.m.
