Research Guides can help you with your research paper

Photo of female hand holding a pen writing on paper
Are you doing a last minute research paper for your class? Do you need ideas for research paper topic? Need help finding resources on your topic?
Did you know that the Library has many research guides on a variety of topics ?
For example, if celebrating Earth Day last week strengthened your interest in the environment, you could choose environment as a general topic for your research paper and then narrow your focus on a specific issue within environment.
To help you narrow your focus and find resources, you can look at the research guide on Environment. The TCC Library research guide on the environment is a great, one-stop source for information about the environment. The guide also has access to a citation guide and access to the Library’s virtual reference service.
In the research guide, two especially interesting databases can help with environmental issues. GreenFILE offers nearly 385,000 items about global warming, green building, pollution, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy, recycling.

Topics discussed at ScienceDirect include energy, environmental science, ecology, global change, and waste management.

The research guide can also connect you with a podcast about living a green lifestyle, provide news from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and has links to environmental websites about energy and about global warming.

To access the environmental research guide, click on the “Research Guides” yellow tab at the TCC Library home page ( http://library.tulsacc.edu ), click  on the “By Subject” link, and jump to the environment.

Rebecca Ungerman
In April 2002, the Smithsonian Institution kicked off its first month-long celebration of jazz with a weekend full of concerts performed by the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra.

The Smithsonian, as well as schools, colleges, and libraries across the country have been celebrating jazz each April ever since.
Jazz Appreciation Month has done well in its mission to “draw greater public attention to the extraordinary heritage and history of jazz and its importance as an American cultural heritage.”

In honor of Jazz Appreciation Month, TCC Library is bringing local jazz singer Rebecca Ungerman to perform a free concert 11 a.m.-1 p.m.  April 22 in the Metro Campus Student Commons.

Ungerman has been voted Urban Tulsa’s Absolute Best of Tulsa Female Vocalist as well as A-List Favorite Stage Performer. She has headlined the Little Rock Blues Festival and opened for Little Richard at the Cain’s Ballroom. She is also involved in numerous other projects, from solo cabaret productions to musicals, and performs regularly at S&J Oyster Co. and the Phoenix CafĂ©.  Ungerman's YouTube channel is youtube.com/user/beckabeltsjazz.

Stop by one of the library’s four locations and one of our friendly staff will be happy to assist you if you would like to learn more about jazz. And join us for the free jazz concert.

Where the Sidewalk Ends  by Shel Silverstein
There is a place where the side-walk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.
Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.
Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

Staff Changes on the TCC Libraries team

In the past few months, you might have seen some new faces among the Library staff at various campuses. We are thrilled to report that two library managers and two part-time instruction librarians have joined us. Please stop by the Library at your campus to meet and welcome the new staff. Here is the who's who list of new staff:

Metro Campus Library
While Casey Ashe remains a manager, he has transitioned into managing the Library's Technical Services department and electronic resources.

Andria Burton, Library Manager
In February, the Metro Campus Library welcomed our Library Manager, Andria Burton.  Andria has worked in the field of education for many years as an Assistant Principal and as a Librarian.  She graduated with her M.L.S. from the University of Texas in Austin and also holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Wilmington College.  Andria loves teaching.  Andria got her introduction to TCC as a Librarian at Northeast Campus before joining us here at Metro.  We are happy to have Andria’s ideas, energy and leadership here downtown!

Southeast Campus Library
Stephanie Titsworth Ingold, Library Manager
In  January, Southeast Campus Library staff were pleased and excited to welcome Stephanie Ingold as the new Library Manager. Stephanie has worked in libraries for more than 14 years. Holding a Master's degree from OU in Library and Information Science, Stephanie has been a library media specialist at Thomas A. Edison High School in Elmira Heights, NY, as well as a librarian at Rogers State University. Most recently prior to coming to TCC, Stephanie was an Instructor of Library Services at Northeastern State University. Welcome to Southeast Campus, Stephanie!

Jamie Holmes, Part-Time Instruction Librarian
In October, Jamie joined the Southeast Campus Library. Jamie has four years of experience as an Instructor of Library Services (Instruction Libarian) at NSU-Broken Arrow. She also has experience as a secondary English teacher and has worked for the BA Chamber of Commerce in their Leadership Broken Arrow program. Jamie holds a M.L.S. from the University of North Texas and a B.A. from Michigan State University. Welcome, Jamie!

Northeast Campus
Megan Donald, Part-Time Instruction librarian
Megan joined the team last month. Megan is a native of Virginia, who came to Tulsa to attend law school at the University of Tulsa.  After receiving her Juris Doctor and determining that her heart was in libraries – not the law – Megan entered library school at the University of Oklahoma.  Not only does Megan bring a wealth of legal research knowledge to the team, but she also has been a graduate assistant at the OU Schusterman Library where she developed a depth of knowledge in medical research. Welcome to TCC, Megan!
